Me and my piece of internet.

  • Hey.

I recently deactivated my Instagram and Twitter accounts. The ones I used to use. I am contemplating creating new accounts.

Before I get into my new accounts, I want to talk about why I deactivated my old ones.

I felt the term "content consumption" and the old saying "you are what you eat" close in on each other recently - to create "You are what you consume". I saw myself consuming way too many reels, showing interest in unnecessary Twitter feuds, and watching content that wasn't really adding any value to my life. Even if it isn't about the value, I saw my attention span going down. That didn't sit well with me, primarily because I love films and I want to be able to watch slow-paced movies without any discomfort.

I had trouble quitting social media before, but it's been a week now and I couldn't be better, in terms of content consumption. Reels were mindless eating. I had no choice in what I wanted to watch. I just scroll up and down. I saw myself becoming lazier than usual. Since I am already pretty lazy, that felt dangerous. Without reels, I can at least have control over what I watch. If I watch something stupid, I know that I chose to watch it. That control felt good.

    What I did after quitting.

    I READ A BOOK!

I always wanted to get into the habit of reading. I romanticized reading from afar, until now. I read a whole book and I felt if I implemented the things I learned, it will change my life and it will make me happy.

I read "Show Your Work!" by Austin Kleon. Why? Well, I am somewhat of an artist myself. I make music. Sample-based hip-hop music, to be precise. In what I think are simpler terms, I am a music producer who uses other people's music to make my own. Because of that, I have always been attracted to his book "Steal Like An Artist!" (it might have been the title). I saw "Show Your Work!" on a local bookseller's stand and said to myself, "Treat yourself". I just bought it because he wrote it. Then I started reading it and loved every word.

One thing I wanted to implement as soon as possible was, you know, sharing my work.

    My piece of the internet.

This. This is my piece of the internet. I made this from a template by timlrx and this is a perfect start for me to get started on writing and not worry about the look and functionality of the site too much, which is awesome. So that's what I am doing.

What I want to be doing here.

Making music is probably 50% of what I do right now. So I want to share things about that. Little things. Like how I worked on a sample, what I might have done new or interesting in a project, something that I like. I want to share things I like about my work and hope I find like-minded people who share my interests. I hope I find a community. That is what I want to be doing here. Find community.

This is where the new accounts come in.

My piece of the internet is just that. Not a sharing platform. I need to share this somewhere for people to find it. So I opened a new Twitter account @not_numba. I hope I use it for the purposes I mean to use it for. If you are interested, connect with me and be a part of this journey.

    Cheers.
